The Negotiator

Inspired by the life of court reporter Claude Poirier

I970s. Quebec is facing an unprecedented wave of bank robberies, kidnappings and hostage-takings. Ill-prepared police forces often have no choice but to use intermediaries to negotiate the dead end. Mac Cloutier is one of them. Neither a policeman nor a criminal, he is a tightrope walker on the fine line between good and evil. This series tells his story.

Synopsis

A dramatic series in eight one-hour episodes

Quebec in the 1970s: the province is swept by an unprecedented wave of bank robberies, kidnappings and hostage takings.  Poorly prepared, the police have no choice: they need intermediaries to break the crime wave’s deadlocks.

That’s where MAC CLOUTIER comes in. Neither cop nor criminal, he’s walking the tightrope between right and wrong. The series tells his story.

MAC is a crime reporter like no other. Risking his life, he earns the respect of a three-time prison escapee who enlists him to agitate for improved conditions at the horrible Montélimar jail. Even though it all comes to nothing, MAC wins the trust of the criminal world. From now on, there’s no choice for him but to answer the call of his difficult future…at the expense of his private and romantic life.

Although inspired by the life of Claude Poirier (a well known crime reporter), the series is fictional.
